Get to know Amy Cottell
Amy was saved at the young age of eight and grew up faithfully attending church and playing music with her family wherever she was needed (drums, bass, piano). The youngest of six children, she is the daughter of Delbert and Vickie Saylor, and her life has been rooted in service—both in the classroom and in ministry. Over the years, Amy has served in nearly every area of church life, including as a Sunday school teacher, children’s church leader, youth leader, camp director (Camp O’ Cumberlands in Harlan, KY). Currently, alongside her husband Billy, they serve as college and career ministry leaders at Parkway.
In Amy’s professional career, she has spent the last 16 years shaping young minds as an elementary educator. She currently teaches second grade at Wallins Elementary in the Harlan County School District. A National Board Certified Teacher, she has taught every grade from Kindergarten through eighth, with Kindergarten being her favorite. She is also a proud mom to two sons: Luke, a nursing student at Union College, and Jesse, a sophomore in the Engineering Department at the University of Kentucky, pursuing a degree in Computer Science. In her spare time, Amy enjoys being a musician, photographer, cooking, camping, and selling on eBay.
Amy and Billy have been married for 29 years and share a deep burden for the college and career age group. After witnessing many young adults walk away from their faith while away at school, they felt called to help build a strong spiritual foundation in students. Together, they strive to be a steady, supportive presence—just a text away—for students who need encouragement, clarity, or someone to talk to when their faith is challenged by professors, peers, or the culture around them. Amy and Billy began attending Parkway just before the COVID pandemic and were deeply inspired by the church’s heart for outreach and its commitment to "reach outside the box" through a wide range of ministries that impact thousands across the region.
