Get to know Larry Taylor

Hi!  Im Larry!  I was born in Pineville, Kentucky, and when I was six years old, my family moved to Williamsburg, where I still live today. I met my wife, Mary, in 1975, and we were married the following year. Together, we have three wonderful sons and six amazing grandchildren. I enjoy carpentry, traveling, hunting, golfing, and spending as much time as possible with our grandkids. One of my favorite Bible verses is John 3:16—it’s a beautiful reminder of God's love and the foundation of my faith.

I graduated from Whitley County High School in 1972 and went on to attend Cumberland College, where I earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in special education. I spent the majority of my career serving at Williamsburg Independent School and retired in 2016. It was a blessing to work in education and to invest in the lives of young people over the years.

I gave my heart to the Lord when I was 10 years old at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, and by the time I was 16, I was teaching the adult Sunday School class. My journey with the Pentecostal faith began in 1975 when I started dating Mary, and I’ve now been part of the Church of God for nearly 50 years. In 2018, after much prayer, I felt the Lord leading me to transfer my membership to Parkway Ministries.

Throughout my years in ministry, I’ve served in many roles—from teaching every age level of Sunday School to being a youth minister, church clerk, trustee, janitor, jail minister, construction worker, and elder. I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Haiti in the 1980s to help build a church, and in 1993, I felt led to start a widow's ministry focused on home repairs and painting. Today, I continue to serve as an adult Sunday School teacher, on the Elders board, and alongside Mary as the leaders of OASIS (Older Adults Still in Service) at Parkway. When Pastor Mark asked us to lead OASIS in 2019, I gladly said yes—it’s one of my greatest joys to serve others, especially the elderly and widows.
